External Ocular Photography
AETNA-CPB-0734
Aetna covers external ocular photography (CPT 92285) only when used to track/serially compare specific medically necessary conditions that may affect management (e.g., acid chemical burn of cornea/conjunctival sac, acute orbital inflammation, adherent leucoma, iris adhesions) and CPT 92285 is payable only if those selection criteria are met. It is considered not medically necessary—and therefore excluded—for numerous other indications (e.g., anterior scleritis, enophthalmos after orbital fracture, epiblepharon/trichiasis, dacryoadenitis, rosacea conjunctivitis, pinguecula, exotropia, White–Sutton syndrome, and for the sole purpose of chart documentation).
