Robotic-assisted Rehabilitation of the Extremities
AETNA-CPB-0778
Aetna considers robotic-assisted rehabilitation of the upper and lower extremities experimental and investigational and therefore not covered for indications including stroke, proximal humeral fracture, incomplete spinal cord injury, neuromuscular diseases (e.g., cerebral palsy, MS, Parkinson disease), traumatic brain injury, and for specific devices such as the Intrepid Dynamic Exoskeletal Orthosis (IDEO), Myomo e100, Myomo MyoPro, and powered hip orthoses. Coverage is excluded due to insufficient evidence of effectiveness; the Myomo MyoPro is classified by the FDA as exercise equipment (excluded by plans that bar exercise equipment), and no HCPCS codes are assigned/covered for these devices.
"None — Aetna considers robotic-assisted rehabilitation of the upper limb and lower limb experimental and investigational because of insufficient evidence of its effectiveness."
