Repair of Nasal Valve Compromise
AMBETTER-CP.MP.210
This policy covers diagnosis and repair of nasal valve compromise (internal or external valve collapse) — including diagnostic evaluation and treatments such as cartilage grafting, nasal valve suspension, radiofrequency ablation, VivAer, and absorbable implants, as well as use of external nasal dilators. It applies to patients with symptomatic nasal obstruction who improve with the Cottle maneuver or nasal stents/dilators and who have failed conservative therapy with other causes excluded, but notes limited/low‑quality evidence (particularly for VivAer and absorbable implants), some procedures lack established safety/efficacy, CPT 30469 is not covered, and applicable Medicaid/Medicare rules take precedence.
"Repair is medically necessary for internal valve collapse or compromise of the upper lateral cartilage."
