Multiple Sleep Latency Testing
AMBETTER-CP.MP.24
Multiple Sleep Latency Testing (MSLT) is covered for evaluation of suspected narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia in patients aged ≥2 years with excessive daytime sleepiness (≥8 weeks) and an Epworth Sleepiness Scale ≥10, with pediatric considerations (onset as early as 2 years; for patients <11 years the test must be ordered by a pediatric neurologist/pulmonologist/sleep specialist and performed in a pediatric sleep–specialized facility). Major limitations/requirements: a standard polysomnogram must be planned the night before, MSLT is not indicated for other sleep disorders or for patients <2 years, it is excluded if the prior-night PSG shows significant sleep pathology, and repeat MSLT is covered only when prerequisites are met and the initial study was invalid, uninterpretable, or affected by extraneous circumstances.
