NICU Apnea Bradycardia Guidelines
AMBETTER-CP.MP.82
NICU Apnea Bradycardia Guidelines cover assessment of neonatal readiness for discharge, criteria for continued inpatient care, and use of home cardiorespiratory monitoring and related measures (including caffeine therapy management and pre‑discharge car seat/car bed testing). Applies to infants—particularly preterm (<37 weeks) or those with apnea of prematurity, bradycardia, desaturations, or reflux-associated events—and requires a five- to seven-day event‑free observation on the planned level of respiratory support (unless reflux resolves), documented caregiver CPR and monitor-training, an adequate home environment, and no caffeine within seven days of discharge; infants with clinically significant events during the observation period or unmet caregiver/home requirements are not eligible.
"Infants may be considered ready for discharge from inpatient care for cardiorespiratory events when they meet the guideline criteria referenced in section I."
