CG-DME-25 Seat Lift Mechanisms

This policy addresses seat lift mechanisms used in the home to assist moving from sitting to standing. Coverage is medically necessary only when all of the following are met: the member has severe hip/knee arthritis or a severe neuromuscular disease; the device is part of a physician-prescribed treatment plan; the member is completely unable to rise from any household chair; and, once standing, can ambulate. Not covered for spring-release/catapulting seat lifts or when any of the above criteria are not met.
