CG-DME-43 High Frequency Chest Compression Devices for Airway Clearance

This policy addresses high frequency chest compression (HFCC) devices for airway clearance. HFCC devices are covered when the patient has cystic fibrosis, chronic bronchiectasis, or a chronic neuromuscular disorder that impairs cough/clearance with a prior pneumonia or significant pulmonary decline, particularly when conventional chest physiotherapy has failed or is not feasible. They are not covered if these criteria are not met, and replacement/upgrades are not covered when requested for convenience or to obtain newer technology if current equipment is functional.
