Policy Summary
This policy addresses cervical cancer screening using cervical cytology (Pap testing) and human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA testing. Cytology screening is medically necessary for individuals with an intact cervix aged 21 or older, and HPV testing is medically necessary at age 30 or older; screening with either test is not medically necessary when these age criteria are not met. “Individual” refers to any person with an intact cervix, regardless of gender identity.
