CG-MED-93 Navigational Bronchoscopy

This policy addresses navigational bronchoscopy for evaluating or treating pulmonary lesions (CPT 31627). It is medically necessary when a nonsurgical biopsy is indicated and both transthoracic needle biopsy and conventional bronchoscopy are inadequate to achieve the diagnostic or interventional objective, or for pre-treatment placement of fiducial markers in lung tumors. It is not medically necessary for any other indications.
