Policy Summary
This policy addresses altered auditory feedback (AAF) devices intended for treating fluency disorders, including stuttering and cluttering. AAF devices are considered investigational/experimental and not medically necessary; therefore, they are not covered. Non-coverage applies to all indications and patient populations (developmental or acquired), with no exceptions; devices may be billed under HCPCS E1399.
