MED.00002 Selected Sleep Testing Services

- Policy scope: Selected sleep testing services, specifically “nap” studies, diagnostic audio recording (with or without pulse oximetry), topographic brain mapping, and acoustic pharyngometry (Eccovision Acoustic Pharyngometer). - Coverage: Anthem considers these services investigational and not medically necessary, including when used for screening or as alternatives to polysomnography to diagnose obstructive sleep apnea or narcolepsy; they are not covered. - Limitations: This policy provides no covered indications for these tests; coverage for standard in-lab polysomnography or established Type III home sleep apnea testing is addressed under separate policies.
