This policy addresses cervical and thoracic discography, a diagnostic procedure involving contrast injection into intervertebral discs to assess discogenic neck or upper-back pain. Anthem deems cervical and thoracic discography investigational/experimental and not medically necessary for all indications; it is not covered. There are no covered exceptions under this policy, and related codes (e.g., CPT 62291, 72285) are not covered; lumbar discography is addressed separately.
