Cigna considers cervicography, spectroscopy/optical detection systems, and speculoscopy — and reporting them with CPT 58999 — not medically necessary for any indication including cervical cancer screening and will not reimburse these techniques. Claims for these services will be denied unless submitted with applicable covered diagnosis/procedure codes per the relevant Coverage Policy, and providers must use the appropriate covered codes or reimbursement will not be allowed.
