Cigna covers patient lifts, seat‑lift mechanisms, multi‑positional transfer systems, combination transfer/mobility devices, and standing devices only when strict, device‑specific medical criteria are fully met and the customer’s benefit plan allows coverage (requirements include documented medical necessity such as multi‑person transfer or bed confinement without a lift, prior trials of therapies, availability of a trained operator, demonstrated ability to safely use the device, and expected functional benefit). Devices deemed convenience/self‑help or nonmedical — e.g., bathroom/toilet lifts (E0172/E0625), ceiling/fixed lifts (E0640), platform/stair/van lifts, elevators, and unsafe spring‑release mechanisms — are excluded; replacements require anatomical change or irreparable wear and tear and proper HCPCS/diagnosis documentation.
