Noncontact Warming Therapy and Fluorescence Imaging for Wounds
DME101.050
This policy addresses noncontact normothermic wound warming (e.g., Warm‑up Wound Therapy occlusive heated dressing) and point‑of‑care bacterial fluorescence imaging and digital wound measurement devices (e.g., MolecuLightDX/i:X) used to promote healing and visualize/quantify bacterial burden and wound size for pressure ulcers, venous stasis and diabetic/neuropathic ulcers, non‑healing surgical incisions, and other chronic wounds. However, the interventions are considered experimental/investigational and not covered due to insufficient, low‑quality evidence and methodological flaws (with a statutory Illinois exception for children with specified neuromuscular/neurological/cognitive impairments for applicable fully insured plans effective 2025‑01‑01); standard wound care must be in place and fluorescence imaging requires appropriate conditions (darkened field) when performed.
