Pediatric Pelvis Imaging Guidelines
EVICORE-CARDIOVASCULAR_RADIOLOGY-05C9EE11
Covers pediatric pelvic imaging—primarily ultrasound and advanced pelvic MRI (CPT 72195–72197 and related codes)—for patients under 18 with a wide range of pelvic indications including abnormal uterine bleeding, PID, amenorrhea, endometriosis, suspected adnexal mass, pelvic pain/ovarian torsion, PCOS, fetal pelvic concerns, undescended testis, scrotal and penile pathology, and related conditions. Major requirements/limitations: ultrasound is the preferred first-line test (transvaginal ultrasound only for sexually active adolescents or tampon users who consent), advanced imaging requires a recent face‑to‑face clinical evaluation and is not for asymptomatic screening, anesthesia exposure should be minimized, repeat studies need evidence of change or management impact, and certain PET codes are rarely or not used in pediatric patients.
