Pediatric Peripheral Nerve Disorders (PND) Imaging Guidelines
EVICORE-CARDIOVASCULAR_RADIOLOGY-DDC31963
This policy covers advanced imaging—primarily MRI and select PET/CT/nuclear medicine procedures—for pediatric peripheral nerve disorders such as neurofibromatosis, brachial plexus injuries, Gaucher disease, and spinal muscular atrophy. Imaging is limited to pediatric patients and generally requires a prior pertinent clinical evaluation, basic imaging (plain radiography/ultrasound) and appropriate labs, atypical presentations need physician review, some PET codes are not used in pediatrics, EMG may be unreliable in infants, and repeat or screening advanced imaging is not supported unless it will change management or document disease progression.
