Fluocinolone Acetonide Intravitreal Implant (Iluvien)

Iluvien (fluocinolone acetonide 0.19 mg intravitreal implant) is authorized for diabetic macular edema for up to 36 months only in patients previously treated with a course of corticosteroids who did not experience a clinically significant intraocular pressure (IOP) rise. It is excluded for active ocular/periocular infection, glaucoma with cup‑to‑disc ratio >0.8, or prior corticosteroid‑related clinically significant IOP elevation, and requires documentation of diagnosis, prior steroid therapy and IOP measurements showing no significant IOP rise, ocular exam without infection, and C/D ratio ≤0.8.
