Pediatric Peripheral Nerve Disorders (PND) Imaging Guidelines
EVICORE-PED-PND
Covers diagnostic imaging for Pediatric Peripheral Nerve Disorders, including MRI (preferred without and with contrast), EMG/NCS use, and associated procedure codes for conditions such as neurofibromatosis, brachial plexus disorders, Gaucher disease, spinal muscular atrophy and other pediatric PNDs. Applies to patients <18 years (with imaging per pediatric guidelines) and notes that anesthesia is usually required for most infants and young children (<7 years) or developmentally delayed children. Advanced imaging generally requires a prior pertinent clinical evaluation (detailed history, neurologic exam, labs and basic imaging) — except for guideline-supported scheduled surveillance or when a meaningful telehealth contact substitutes — and is limited to patients with documented active signs/symptoms; atypical/complex cases and certain PET/MRI codes may require physician review.
