Pediatric Peripheral Nerve Disorders (PND) Imaging Guidelines
EVICORE-PEDIATRIC-PND-IMAGING-GUIDELINES
Covers imaging for pediatric peripheral nerve disorders, including MRI (upper and lower extremity joint and non‑joint CPT codes), EMG/NCS, CT and select nuclear/PET procedures used to evaluate conditions affecting peripheral nerves. Applicable to diagnoses such as neurofibromatosis, brachial plexus injury, Gaucher disease and spinal muscular atrophy, but advanced imaging is limited to patients with documented active clinical signs/symptoms (not for asymptomatic screening); atypical presentations require physician review, EMG may be unreliable in infants or within 10 days post‑injury, and contrast/PET studies are rarely used or not used in pediatrics.
