Pediatric Peripheral Nerve Disorders (PND) Imaging Guidelines
EVICORE-PEDPND_FINAL
Imaging for pediatric peripheral nerve disorders, including MRI of the neck, brachial plexus, spine and related advanced studies for patients <18 with conditions such as neurofibromatosis, brachial plexus injury, Gaucher disease and spinal muscular atrophy. Major limitations: atypical or unaddressed presentations require physician review and are not auto-approved; advanced imaging generally requires prior pertinent clinical evaluation (history, neurologic exam, labs and basic imaging) and repeat or screening studies are discouraged absent disease progression or documented impact on management (certain PET and some contrast extremity MRI codes are rarely used in pediatrics).
