Spine Imaging Guidelines
EVICORE-SPINE-IMAGING-GUIDELINES
Covers spine imaging and appropriate use of advanced diagnostic modalities (e.g., MRI, CT, SPECT/SPECT‑CT, plain radiographs and nuclear studies) for common spine-related presentations including cervical, thoracic and lumbar pain, radiculopathy/radiculitis, myelopathy, spinal stenosis, spondylolysis/spondylolisthesis, compression fractures, cancer-related spine disease, deformities and post‑operative disorders. Major limitations/requirements: atypical presentations require physician review; advanced imaging generally requires an in-person clinical evaluation with documented detailed neurological exam and a failed trial of conservative therapy followed by re‑evaluation, and in many cases a recent plain x‑ray must be obtained and available prior to advanced imaging.
