Cranial Electrical Stimulation - Medicare Advantage
HUMANA-CRANIAL-ELECTRICAL-STIMULATION-MA
This policy addresses cranial electrical stimulation (CES) devices for neuropsychiatric and pain-related conditions — most commonly anxiety, depression, insomnia, fibromyalgia, PTSD, migraines/headaches, and other chronic painful conditions — and notes CES is FDA‑cleared for symptoms of anxiety, depression, and insomnia. Under Medicare Advantage the policy states there are no specific covered indications and, given limited/low‑strength evidence, variable study protocols, and absence of guideline- or CMS‑supported coverage, CES is generally not considered medically reasonable and necessary unless Medicare requirements for coverage are specifically met.
