Doula Services - MEDICAID - VIRGINIA

This policy covers doula services for Virginia Medicaid beneficiaries, providing prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum emotional, educational and advocacy support related to pregnancy, labor/delivery and the first 12 months postpartum. It applies to birthing individuals including those with active behavioral health, medical, or social conditions (e.g., bipolar disorder, depression) and limits benefits to up to 4 prenatal visits, up to 6 postpartum visits (within 12 months) and one delivery attendance (10-visit standard limit overall), with additional visits or delivery attendances requiring prior approval and medical-necessity justification; services are non-medical and subject to program/provider rules.
