Medical Supplies, Equipment and Appliances Durable Medical Equipment - MEDICAID - VIRGINIA

This policy covers durable medical equipment (DME) and medical supplies/appliances for home use — including hospital beds (standard, heavy‑duty and bariatric models), mattresses/cushions, electrical stimulators, bowel‑irrigation control units and other nondisposable therapeutic devices. Coverage is limited to items that meet the DME definition and are medically necessary to enable function or care due to illness or injury (including pediatric and high‑weight‑capacity needs); the Plan decides rent versus purchase, repairs are covered only when less costly than replacement, and items primarily for comfort or supplied by a hospital/SNF are excluded.
