Superficial Radiation Therapy - Medicare Advantage

This policy covers superficial radiation therapy (SRT) — including radionuclide brachytherapy, electronically generated low‑energy x‑ray/miniature electron accelerator SRT and image‑guided SRT (eg, FDA‑cleared SRT‑100) — for treatment of superficial skin and related conditions. Key indications include superficial nonmelanoma skin cancers (eg, BCC, cSCC) when surgery is contraindicated or refused, benign and malignant skin lesions, psoriasis, Peyronie’s disease and other listed conditions, but use is limited to superficial lesions with low‑energy sources (≤120 kVp) and is subject to applicable Medicare NCDs/LCDs, MAC jurisdictional policies and referenced specialty coverage policies.
