National Government Services, Inc. (J06)
Effective: January 1, 2020
Updated: December 31, 2025
Policy Summary
Ambulatory EEG monitoring is covered when routine EEG and clinical evaluation are inconclusive and when prolonged outpatient recording is needed to diagnose or characterize seizures, differentiate seizures from cardiac or psychogenic events, estimate seizure frequency, or guide medication management. Coverage excludes neonates and unattended/non-cooperative patients, and ambulatory EEG is not appropriate for localization when bilateral foci or rapid generalization are indicated or when routine EEG and history already establish the diagnosis.
