Policy Summary
RAST, FAST, multiple antigen simultaneous testing (MAST), and ELISA methods that detect specific IgE to clinically important allergens are covered when supported by a complete history and physical examination. Tests that assess IgG responses (including ELISA/Act qualitative antibody testing, LMRA by ELISA/Act, qualitative multi-allergen screens, and IgG or IgG-subclass testing for food allergy) are considered not medically necessary and are denied.
