Scanning Computerized Ophthalmic Diagnostic Imaging (SCODI)
L33751
SCODI (anterior and posterior segment) is covered for evaluation and management of glaucoma (including suspected cases and all severity stages), for monitoring retinal toxicity in patients on long-term chloroquine/hydroxychloroquine therapy, and for assessment of optic nerve and retinal diseases including AMD, diabetic retinopathy, and macular abnormalities. SCODI is not covered for asymptomatic screening or solely as confirmatory testing for an already established diagnosis; fundus photography and posterior SCODI are generally mutually exclusive on the same eye the same day unless distinct medical necessity is documented. Documentation must show the test was used to diagnose, establish a baseline, or monitor therapy, and providers should follow IDTF and CMS requirements; specific frequency limits are referenced in the policy's Utilization Guidelines.
"Anterior-segment SCODI is covered for evaluation of specified forms of glaucoma and disorders of the cornea, iris, or ciliary body."
