Seat Lift Mechanisms
L33801
Seat lift mechanisms are covered when prescribed by the treating or consulting practitioner as part of treatment for severe hip or knee arthritis or severe neuromuscular disease, when the beneficiary is completely unable to rise from any chair at home but is able to ambulate once standing, and when documented therapeutic modalities have been tried and failed. Coverage is limited to smoothly operating, user-controlled lifts that assist standing/sitting without additional help; spring-release catapult-style lifts are excluded. Required documentation includes a timely Standard Written Order/WOPD, practitioner records showing failed therapies, correct HCPCS coding, and maintained proof of delivery.
"Beneficiary has severe arthritis of the hip or knee, or has a severe neuromuscular disease."
