Medicare covers hospital beds and specified accessories when the item is an eligible Medicare benefit, is reasonable and necessary per SSA §1862(a)(1)(A), and documentation supports the specific medical need. Coverage criteria are type-specific: fixed-height, variable-height, semi-electric, heavy-duty/extra-heavy beds, and accessories have explicit clinical or weight-based indications; total-electric beds are excluded. Suppliers must have required written orders (SWO/WOPD), maintain proof of delivery, and comply with HCPCS coding and LCD documentation requirements or claims will be denied.
