Pressure Reducing Support Surfaces - Group 1

Medicare covers Group 1 pressure-reducing mattress overlays/mattresses (listed HCPCS codes) when the beneficiary is completely immobile, has limited mobility plus at least one specified risk factor (impaired nutrition, incontinence, altered sensation, compromised circulation), or has any stage pressure ulcer on the trunk/pelvis plus at least one specified risk factor. The support surface must not 'bottom out' in specified positions and coverage is contingent on correct coding, receipt of required Standard Written Orders/WOPD prior to billing or delivery, and maintenance of proof-of-delivery documentation.
