Vestibular Function Tests

This LCD covers specified vestibular function tests (caloric bithermal/monothermal, basic vestibular evaluation components, ENG/VNG recordings, and rotary-chair testing) when performed by appropriately qualified providers with a physician order. Testing is covered only after a documented history, physical and medication review demonstrating that results are likely to contribute directly to patient therapy; tests done without required evaluation or physician referral, or solely for hearing-aid selection or when diagnostic information is already known, are not covered. Repeats of the full test battery are generally not medically necessary and require clear documentation of medical necessity; provider qualifications and licensure must be documented.
