Panretinal (Scatter) Laser Photocoagulation
L34064
Medicare covers panretinal (scatter) laser photocoagulation for management of proliferative and pre-proliferative retinopathies, including severe diabetic macular edema associated with pre-proliferative retinopathy, and other proliferative retinopathies when treatment is clinically justified. Initial PRP typically involves ~1500–2000 laser spots delivered over two or more staged sessions; payment is allowed once during the global period and subsequent postoperative sessions are included in the initial allowance, and non-physician practitioners are not reimbursed for performing the procedure.
"Panretinal laser photocoagulation (PRP) is indicated for treatment or management of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR)."
