Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA)
L34372
MRA is covered on a limited basis for vascular imaging of the head and neck, chest, peripheral arteries of the lower extremities, and abdomen/pelvis (including evaluation of tumor vascular invasion) as specified in CMS NCD Manual Chapter 1, Section 220.2. MRA is an acceptable alternative for patients who cannot tolerate iodinated contrast, and it may be used for surgical or endovascular planning. Routine performance of both MRA and contrast angiography (CA) is not covered unless the physician documents specific medical necessity (e.g., discordant tests, need to verify stenosis site, or MRA degraded by metallic artifact).
