CT of the abdomen and pelvis is medically necessary for a range of diagnostic and treatment-planning indications including evaluation of pain, masses, malignancy, inflammatory or vascular abnormalities, trauma, guidance for interventions, and radiation therapy planning. Pelvic CT is likewise covered for evaluation of pelvic organ pathology, lymphadenopathy, GU disorders when exam/ultrasound is inconclusive, and for TAVI/TAVR evaluation only if no CT of the same region was performed within the prior 60 days; CT angiography coverage is not addressed. Scans must be performed on FDA-known, full market release CT models.
