Medicare covers home health psychiatric skilled nursing, medical social work, OT, and HHA services when the patient is homebound, the care is reasonable and necessary for a diagnosed psychiatric disorder, and services are delivered under a physician-signed Plan of Care with physician certification/recertification at least every 60 days. Psychiatric services must require the specialized skills of a psychiatrically trained RN or other qualified provider (MSW/OT) as documented in the POC; group interventions, services primarily provided by psychiatric-only agencies, duplicative counseling, and certain non-skilled maintenance care are not covered.
