Immunizations

Medicare covers immunizations only when directly related to treatment of an injury or direct exposure, with preventive vaccines generally excluded except for pneumococcal, hepatitis B, and influenza. Specific post-exposure vaccinations covered include tetanus (Tdap/Td) according to wound type and immunization history, diphtheria antitoxin for diphtheria treatment, hepatitis A vaccine after documented exposure, and rabies post-exposure regimens; documentation of exposure, immunization history, and product-specific administration is required for coverage.
