Medicare covers routine electronic analysis and monitoring of implanted pacemakers and cardioverter‑defibrillators (including pre/postoperative evaluation for ICDs and pacer‑dependent patients) as medically necessary; monitoring may include in‑office interrogation and transtelephonic methods per applicable NCDs. Local Medicare allows routine interrogation of pacing cardioverter‑defibrillators within one month post‑implant and then every three months, with more frequent testing permitted for symptom evaluation; wearable defibrillator coverage is handled by DME contractors and follows the same monitoring frequency as implantable defibrillators.
