Autonomic Function Testing

Autonomic function testing (cardiovagal, vasomotor adrenergic, and sudomotor) is covered when used diagnostically for patients with signs or symptoms of autonomic dysfunction to establish/refine diagnosis or guide management, including evaluation of autonomic neuropathy, syncope variants, POTS, distal small fiber neuropathy, and treatment response when clinically warranted. Screening asymptomatic patients, testing solely for disease monitoring in diabetes/hepatic/renal disease, tests not used in management, use of investigational equipment (e.g., ANSAR ANX 3.0 for screening), inadequate equipment, or testing by inadequately trained providers are not covered; documentation of clinical indications, exclusion of common causes, provider training, and appropriate equipment/FDA clearance is required.
