Measurement of Salivary Hormones

Noridian considers evening salivary cortisol testing medically necessary for the diagnosis of Cushing's syndrome. All other salivary hormone measurements (e.g., thyroid, testosterone, estrogen, parathyroid, growth hormone) are investigational and not covered due to lack of standardization and uncertain accuracy. The policy does not specify additional documentation or frequency limits.
