HLA-DQB1*06:02 typing (CPT 81383) is considered experimental/investigational and is not covered for diagnosis or management of narcolepsy in any population. The test lacks diagnostic utility because it cannot confirm or exclude narcolepsy or quantify individual risk, and a substantial proportion of unaffected people carry the allele while some affected individuals lack it.
