Respiratory Pathogen Panel Testing

Medicare Part B outpatient respiratory pathogen panel testing is covered when panels contain five or fewer respiratory pathogens, the outpatient setting can timely report results, and the result is expected to aid clinical management toward improved patient outcome. Coverage is allowed for FDA-cleared tests and laboratory-developed tests only when the laboratory documents analytical and clinical validity and clinical utility consistent with Medicare's medically reasonable and necessary standard; panels with more than five pathogens in the Part B outpatient setting are not covered.
