Partial Ventriculectomy
NCD122
Effective: April 15, 1997
Updated: December 31, 2025
Policy Summary
Medicare does not cover partial ventriculectomy (also called ventricular reduction or ventricular remodeling) because of high mortality and absence of published clinical evidence demonstrating it is reasonable and necessary. The procedure, performed to reduce left ventricular size in end-stage congestive heart failure, is therefore excluded from Medicare coverage under §1862(a)(1).
