Cytotoxic Food Tests

Medicare excludes cytotoxic (cytotoxic leukocyte) tests for food allergies from coverage effective August 5, 1985 because available evidence did not show they are safe and effective. Prior to that date these tests were covered only as adjuncts to in vivo clinical allergy testing in complex food allergy cases; no frequency limits or additional documentation requirements are specified in this policy excerpt.
