HIS Bundle Study

Medicare covers HIS bundle studies for selected patients: those with complex ongoing acute arrhythmias, patients with intermittent or permanent heart block being evaluated for pacemaker implantation, and patients who recently developed heart block after myocardial infarction. When performed concurrently with heart catheterization only one catheterization charge is covered (with a small additional charge allowed for the HIS study), and no separate charge is allowed when the HIS study is part of diagnostic endocardial electrical stimulation.
