Policy Summary
Medicare does not cover hair mineral analysis when used to detect mineral traces as an aid in diagnosing human disease because results cannot be correlated with whole-body chemical status. The procedure is considered not reasonable and necessary under §1862(a)(1) and is therefore excluded from coverage.
