Policy Summary
Electric nerve stimulation used to treat motor function disorders (for example, multiple sclerosis) is considered not reasonable and necessary and is non‑covered; no reimbursement is allowed for the stimulator or implantation-related services. Separately, deep brain stimulation for essential tremor and Parkinson's disease is not adjudicated by this policy and is addressed under NCD Manual §160.24, which should be consulted for coverage criteria and documentation requirements.
