Policy Summary
Medicare covers home blood glucose monitors and necessary supplies for patients diagnosed with diabetes when the device is intended for home use and the physician documents that the patient (or a responsible individual) can be trained to use it. Specially equipped systems for visually impaired patients are covered if the standard coverage conditions are met and the physician certifies the severity of visual impairment; clinical-use reflectance colorimeters requiring frequent professional recalibration are excluded from home DME coverage.
