Policy Summary
Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is covered as a diagnostic imaging technique to visualize vascular structures comparable to conventional angiography, and it may be performed using venous contrast on an outpatient basis. Inpatient hospitalization solely to perform DSA is ordinarily not required and is generally not covered as an inpatient service, and payment for DSA should not exceed (and may be less than) payments for conventional angiographic techniques; contractors should monitor utilization of DSA.
